Low Cholesterol Diet

Low Cholesterol Diet Plan

People have different reasons for losing weight. You see, obesity can have serious implications and it can lead to other health problems. To keep the heart healthy, there is a need to follow a low cholesterol diet. Medical professionals usually prescribe a low cholesterol diet which should be followed for 1 to 6 months. There are times when  prescription medication is also given in conjunction with the special low cholesterol diet.

Having high levels of cholesterol in the body is not good because it can lead to heart disease and even stroke! Medications are not enough because you have to combine it with proper diet and regular exercise. When you have problems with the cholesterol level, you have to stay away from high-fat foods. This refers to ones that are very high in saturated fats. Instead of consuming saturated fats, you should check the label and choose those with unsaturated fat.

Fiber and Complex Carbs

Low Cholesterol Diet

Some foods are very high in bad cholesterol and you need to eat them moderately. It’s best to eat foods containing fiber and starch or complex carbs which are a large portion of a low cholesterol diet. For the obese, shedding some excess pounds is the best solution. You should know the difference between the types of dietary fat. You have to make sure that you’re getting only the monounsaturated or polyunsaturated fats. However, since foods usually have a mixture of these two types, you have to read the label and pick one that has the right values.

low cholesterol diet should consist of a smaller amount of total fat. Calories can be obtained from fats and so if you eat fewer fats, you will also consume less calories. If you’re trying to lose weight, this will surely aid in your progress. What if you are not overweight? Even if you are not  overweight, you may still have a high cholesterol level. If this is the case, you should eat more of foods that contain complex carbohydrates.

Reduce Fat

By simply reducing ‘total fat’, you will also lessen the saturated fat found in your diet. Saturated fats can be found in ice cream, whole milk, cheese, butter, and cream. All the tasty foods that people love contain fats (just our luck). Instead of eating lots of red meat, you can opt for the lean slices or you can eat more of the shellfish, fish, or poultry. These foods also contain fat but at a much lower content in comparison to red meat.

Hydrogenated fat is also known as trans-fat. Too much of this is not good for the body. Did you know that trans-fat can lead to narrowing of your arteries which is medically called atherosclerosis? If you want to keep the arteries free from blockage, you have to stay away from foods that contain this ingredient. This is why it is very important to have a low cholesterol diet.

Palm oil, palm kernel, cocoa butter, and coconut oil are also high in saturated fats. You can also find them in most nondairy substitutes, crackers, cookies, and baked goods. It would be best if you use canola or olive oil for the sake of your heart’s health. Stick to your diet and you will surely improve your well being.
